Welcome to a holiday edition of Free App Friday, featuring Skyworks World Cup Ping Pong, an arcade version of the classic table-top tennis game made for the iPhone and iPod touch. Apple recently announced that over 1 billion applications had been downloaded from the App Store, a lofty number, but it's not clear how profitable the App Store has been for Apple. Enter Lightspeed Venture Partners, who have assembled an interesting analysis of App Store profits. Based upon their estimates, they believe Apple has made between $20-$45 million in revenue from the App Store.

Now that Sling Media is listed as a developer in the App Store, the company is just awaiting approval of SlingPlayer for iPhone and reports say it could happen later tonight. MacRumors cites multiple sources saying SlingPlayer for iPhone will be released tonight. As we predicted back in March, SlingPlayer for iPhone will support WiFi only. The thought of having SlingPlayer for iPhone was priceless, but instead we're left with pricey. The WiFi only SlingPlayer for iPhone will cost $29.99.

Sling Media is now listed as a developer in the App Store, but the fate of SlingPlayer is still unknown. This essentially means that Sling Media can now sell officially sell apps, but there is only one app of consequence to Slingbox owners. SlingPlayer for iPhone was submitted for review back in March, but Apple has yet to either approve or decline the app.

Apple has reversed their earlier decision and have approved Trent Reznor's iPhone NIN application. Earlier this week, Reznor was informed the app was declined due to "objectionable content". The NIN app apparently includes music from "The Downward Spiral", an album that earns it's parental rating. This led Reznor, a pro-Apple guy, to go on a rant filled with another set of expletives comparing Apple's move to a similar issue the band had with Walmart a few years prior.

Apple today apologized for allowing 'Baby Shaker' to find it's way into the App Store. After a public outcry from numerous tech blogs starting with Krapps, the company started receiving complaints and removed the application. Today Apple followed up with a statement apologizing for the app ever making it's way through the approval process.
