Earlier this week, planetbeing, a member of the iPhone DevTeam, ported the Linux 2.6 kernel to the iPhone and iPod touch. This is something that has been being worked on for quite a while, as it opens up the possibility to run other OS's, such as Windows Mobile and Android on the iPhone.
Boy Genius Report is reporting that next month, Wal-Mart will join Best Buy as a third-party iPhone reseller. The report says that Wal-Mart will make the announcement on Saturday, November 15th - about two weeks before Black Friday, the start of the holiday shopping season in the US and the busiest shopping day of the year.
It was Boy Genius Report that told us that Best Buy was going to be the first third-party reseller of the iPhone, so there's reason to believe that this rumor is true as well. Wal-Mart is already one of Apple's highest volume iPod resellers, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the iPhone joining it.
Some members of The Mac Observer's Apple Finance Board have made an effort to determine how many iPhones Apple has sold, and it was revealed that the company may have already reached it's goal of selling 10 million units in 2008.
For the next few days, Pangea Software, MooCowMusic, and Demiforce will be having a sale on their applications available in the AppStore. All of the apps are listed below, and each has a link leading to the AppStore.
Two weeks ago, Apple rejected an app's submission to the AppStore because it "duplicated iTunes functionality." That app was Podcaster, an application that allows you to subscribe, manage, stream, and download podcasts directly to your iPhone or iPod touch. Today, another app has been rejected for a similar reason: it "duplicates the functionality of the built in Mail application."
Remember the days when it would take up to two months for a new firmware to be jailbroken? Looks like those days are over. Yesterday, Apple released the 2.1 firmware, and this morning, the iPhone Dev Team released PwnageTool and QuickPwn 2.1 for the Mac, both able to jailbreak the 2.1 firmware. The Dev Team previously stated that they were going to have to patch iTunes in order for this to work, but apparently they found a way around that.
