iPhone 3G S Available for Purchase Online, Upgrade Pricing Not So Wallet Friendly

It appears that it's safe to put away the camping gear, at least until next June. Our friends at JustAnotheriPhoneBlog let us know that Apple is allowing online sales of the iPhone 3G S. You can order online today or reserve for pickup at a local Apple Store. Apple's site allows existing AT&T customers to enter their information and you'll receive pricing options available to you.

For new customers, the iPhone 3G S is starts at $199. I purchased two iPhone 3G phones on launch day last year and was offered an "upgrade" price of $399 for the 16GB version, that's a premium of $200 over new customers. Worse yet, I won't be available for a wallet-friendly upgrade until December. I'd suspect those who are on a yearly upgrade plan, these prices might prove too steep for an upgrade to iPhone 3G S.

Existing iPhone owner? Did you receive more attractive pricing? Will these upgrade prices prevent you from upgrading? Let us know in the comments.
