Palm Pre To Have Built-In Support for iTunes

Fortune Magazine today revealed some startling information regarding the upstart Palm Pre.  It seems the Palm Pre is not only Mac friendly, but iTunes friendly. Plug the Pre into a Mac and it reportedly syncs seamlessly with iTunes. Not only does it sync, but the Mac treats the Pre as if it were an iPod or iPhone. Palm has built in support for iTunes within the firmware of the Pre.

It will not work with copy-protected songs, but iTunes plus certainly resolves that issue. Palm's Jon Rubenstein played a big part in the development of the original iPod and now seems to be using his wealth of experience in the iTunes ecosystem to include native iTunes support on the Pre.

Other phones have offered conduit software that allows for syncing iTunes, but none to date have offered full native support. It's not clear if Apple will take issue with Palm's native iTunes support. For consumers who were considering the Pre, support for iTunes syncing is a major plus, along with yesterday's news that the Pre supports push email on Gmail.
