AT&T To Offer Cheaper iPhone Plans

More signs today that AT&T might be looking to offer cheaper iPhone plans. Reports say that AT&T might introduce a new limited access plan that would shave $10 off the price of the current plan. The plan might be available sometime later this month. The price cut might be a result of Apple looking for the wireless carrier to offer more flexible pricing plans and AT&T's desire to continue being the exclusive carrier for the iPhone.

Apple is rumored to be introducing a new low-cost iPhone in June or July. Combined with lower-priced data plans, the new iPhone could easily lure fence-sitters who found the current iPhone 3G too expensive. According to comScore, 43% of iPhone buyers earned more than $100,000 a year. Chetan Sharma, who works as a wireless industry consultant, believes "AT&T is starting to hit a wall in terms of new subscribers". Analysts believe a new $99 iPhone and lower-priced data would open the device to mainstream consumers.
