Now that Sling Media is listed as a developer in the App Store, the company is just awaiting approval of SlingPlayer for iPhone and reports say it could happen later tonight. MacRumors cites multiple sources saying SlingPlayer for iPhone will be released tonight. As we predicted back in March, SlingPlayer for iPhone will support WiFi only. The thought of having SlingPlayer for iPhone was priceless, but instead we're left with pricey. The WiFi only SlingPlayer for iPhone will cost $29.99.
This move by Apple, most likely on AT&T's behalf, is not a surprise considering today's report that bandwidth hogging apps are making data plans less profitable. If you own a SlingBox, do you plan on purchasing SlingPlayer for iPhone? Is SlingPlayer for iPhone a reason to get a SlingBox? Let us know in the comments and keep an eye on the App Store for the imminent release.
