The Apple iPhone has in many ways been a savior for AT&T. Sure the company was doing fine, but the iPhone is responsible for the company seeing millions of new customers. Promises of a new iPhone as soon as June could see even more new AT&T customers and contract extensions for existing customers. When the iPhone was first announced, AT&T was announced as the exclusive carrier, but there were conflicting reports as to when the contract will end. Now comes word that AT&T is looking to extend their exclusivity deal with Apple through 2011.

The Wall St. Journal is reporting that AT&T is in negotiations with Apple to get an extension through 2011. If AT&T were to lose their exclusive, customers would certainly consider jumping to another provider who might offer better wireless coverage and/or pricing. AT&T, nor Apple have offered any information on the original deal, only saying it's a "multi-year" deal.
