Elevation Partners McNamee Says Palm Pre 'Runs Rings' Around iPhone

Elevation Partners Roger McNamee, a major investor in Palm, spoke with Bloomberg yesterday and had some bold statements about the upcoming Palm Pre relative to the iPhone. “You know the beautiful thing: June 29, 2009, is the two- year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone,” McNamee said today in an interview in San Francisco. “Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later.”
The dialogue continued in an interview on Bloomberg TV. "Our product is going to run rings around it on the web", said McNamee. "If you want to go to the web, it's going to be several times faster".
McNamee is huge Apple fan, owning an iPhone, iPod touch and will not use any computer that isn't a Mac. The Apple ties to the Palm Pre do not end there with former Apple COO know working for Palm and of course Jon Rubenstein who played a key role in the creation of the iPod.
This isn't the first time Palm has taken swings at Apple. Prior to the iPhone even being announced, we reported on Palm's CEO Ed Colligan questioning whether Apple could figure out "how to make a decent phone".
Those in our community who are interested in the Palm Pre will be pleased to know that the launch of our Pre site could come any day. As for the Palm Pre, the still unknown release date is most likely in the May, June timeframe. Of course, we also expect Apple will raise the bar once again with their new iPhone. Should be a good year for smartphones.
