Since the inception of the iPhone in June of 2007, people have been asking how to use the Copy and Paste function of the iPhone. When these people ask this question on a discussion board, or a forum post, they are stunned when they find out there is no Copy and Paste function on the iPhone. How can such a basic feature, that most computer users use several times daily, be excluded? Even Apple employees don't have the answers to this question. They just tell you where and how to leave feedback! (I believe they are just as perplxed as the consumers!) Even the official Apple discussion board has over 250 topics on C&P.
Some people are so desperate for Copy and Paste that they have created photoshopped pictures, showing how this missing feature can be seamlessly integrated into the iPhone interface. Other people have created concepts of how they would incorporate C&P into the iPhone. Companies have created applications in the App Store, that include C&P within the application. Why does it seem like everyone is interested in getting C&P on the iPhone except Apple?
Business users are scoffing the iPhone. They do not understand how a device as spectacular as the iPhone can still be lacking a needed functionality as basic as C&P. Some even go as far to say if Apple has not remedied this situation by a certain date, they will return to Blackberry. Some business users have already returned to Blackberry. Apple has lost a portion of this consumer group, because they have neglected to add, or even address, a simple function.
Even some personal users are upset about this missing functionality. Having to manually type out long sequences of information should be a thing of the past, but iPhone users find themselves doing this in lieu of C&P. It is apparent that thousands of consumers want to have the capability to C&P. Some people have no need for C&P so the lack of it does not affect them, but neither would the addition of it.
How do we as the consumers, address this situation? Move on to a different device? Leave Apple feedback? Apple recommends leaving feedback to their engineers at this link.
I happened to leave the following message to them. "Why should people even have to request something that they use everyday on any other operating system? Copy and paste is certainly a very important missing feature. I have witnessed ALOT of people asking where this basic function is at. With a device as brilliant as the iPhone it seems silly to not even touch on the subject. You could at least let people know you are or are not working on it, and what the holdup is. Apple has had alot of time to work on this and people have been requesting it since its inception. Do the executives at Apple not see this as a failure? I can assure you everyone else does."
This is not the first time I have left them feedback on this subject. After owning the iPhone for a couple months, I let Apple know what I liked and what I did not like. I am encouraging everyone reading this to do the same. Leave feedback letting Apple know that it is unacceptable to not take care of this issue!
