Joost on the iPhone

Joost dropped a little black Friday magic in the App Store late Friday night with the release of their new mobile offering.  For those of you not familiar with Joost, they've been around for a while now with a desktop application, and a range of media they've licensed including old media and new. Now with their iPhone app they're rushing into the burgeoning mobile environment, and I for one welcome them.

Combing over the reviews in the App Store, and the initial twitter reviews, it seems that most are a fickle bunch.

Most complaints are about the limited content, while some are about the responsiveness of the application itself. I refuse to look a gift horse in the mouth, and welcome as much media as I can onto my shiny iPhone, regardless.

That's not to say I'm completely impartial to Joost's lineup of movies, television, and web clips. Some of the content is great. Watching the full length feature "The Professional", I was astounded at the clarity of the streaming images, and happy to have the access. You also have the ability to see what other users are watching and what's popular on the Joost network.

I experienced none of the issues regarding playback and was quite impressed. Unfortunately, I wish they had allowed access to their app not only on WiFi, but also on 3G or Edge connections, although I understand the idea behind not letting some users hang themselves with limiting broadband contracts.

Overall, I look forward to see what else Joost will do.
