New Apple Notebooks, no iPhone News :(

Apple held a media event today focused on their notebook line, and made quite a few announcements about product updates and a new cinema display. Unfortunately for iPhone fans, there was no iPhone news to speak of at this event.

The MacBooks get the biggest overhaul with new aluminum enclosures, an LED-backlit screen, a backlit keyboard, and better graphics. The MacBook Pros also get better graphics in the form of a new Nvidia GPU, new enclosures, and an LED-backlit display. Both lines get and the new Mini Display Port and a new glass trackpad that can recognize additional finger gestures and that is a button in itself. These new models will be available in stores tomorrow.

The MacBook Air, my personal favorite, finally gets a larger hard drive and larger SSD option, as well as improved graphics and the Mini Display Port. The new Cinema Display will be a 24" widescreen with the new Mini Display Port, LED backlighting, a built-in iSight camera, and stereo speakers. These products will be available in November.

Steve Jobs, Phil Schiller, and Tim Cook time time for a little Q&A afterward, answering questions about the possibility of netbooks (the market's too new), touchcreens (doesn't make sense yet), and a few other areas. Looks like we'll have to wait to hear more about the push notification service previously promised and firmware 2.2 for the iPhone...
