Look, we all know it’s inevitable. Eventually Apple will release both iTunes 11 and iOS 6, both to much fanfare, I’m sure. That said, there’s evidence that said software is already in the works. Allegedly, Apple is already seeding iTunes 11 internally, and that most of the changes will be under the hood rather than cosmetic. The new version appears to have greater iCloud integration, including a dedicated preference just for the service.
iTunes is currently something of a swiss army knife of Apple apps, dragooned into a thousand jobs, without really excelling at any of them. Recently, increased calls have been made to completely overhaul the app, most notably a recent editorial from Macworld. Frankly, I can’t help but think a from scratch rewrite of the app to clean out the cobwebs would do major good.
