Apple Updates MacBook Pro Line, Introduces Thunderbolt I/O Technology

Apple this morning announced the introduction of the updated MacBook Pro line. With dual and quad-core processors along with new graphics, the entire line is up to twice as fast as the previous generation. The new MacBook Pro line also ushers in Intel’s Light Peak, a new I/O technology that Apple has branded “Thunderbolt”. According to Apples Phil Schiller, “Thunderbolt is a revolutionary new I/O technology that delivers an amazing 10 gigabits per second and can support every important I/O standard which is ideal for the new MacBook Pro.”

Also included is an improved camera offering support for Facetime HD. The MacBook Pro line starts at $1199 for the 13″ inch model up to $2499 for the 17″ model. The Apple Store lists all of them as shipping in 1-2 days.

  2. Is anyone else sad about the lack of a discrete gpu on the 13″? I had been waiting for the refresh in hopes that it would come with an upgraded gpu but instead they lowered battery life and took a (small) step back in terms of graphics.
