Apple TV to add HBO Go later this year?

A report tonight from Bloomberg cites two sources who say Apple is in negotiations to include an HBO Go application on the Apple TV. HBO Go is currently available on a host of platforms that include the iPad and iPhone as well as products like the Roku Apple TV to add HBO Go later this year? which compete directly with the Apple TV. For those customers with both an iPhone and Apple TV, the AirPlay feature would seem like an easy way to bypass the need for a full blown app, but that feature has been disabled by either HBO or Apple.

HBO Go offers over 600 hours of content, including every episode from all of their critically acclaimed shows. In order to utilize HBO Go, customers must have a current cable subscription, which gets verified when you first try to access the app.

This seems like a no brainer for both parties. Hearing that negotiations are required to add one app doesn’t sound like we are any closer to Apple opening up their hobby product to apps.

The two individuals familiar with the plans are saying mid-2013 for availability of the HBO Go app on the Apple TV, just in time for the new season of Boardwalk Empire.
