Oft rumored, Bloomberg now reports that Apple is preparing a major revamp of its iTunes software, with a renewed focus on sharing. This according to “people with direct knowledge of the matter”.
The new iTunes update will launch sometime later this year. Big changes on deck include deeper iCloud integration. With this will come greater access to music, movies and apps across all of your Apple devices. It appears that Apple will also make another attempt at increasing the social aspect of iTunes. The company announced ‘Ping’ back in 2010, dubbed a ‘social network for music’. While we don’t have exact usage numbers, one would suspect Apple wants to make a bigger play into social with this new version of iTunes.
Discovery is also on the docket, improving search capabilities within iTunes. With the increasing content, they are looking for ways to improve user experiences when attempting to find new material. Apple has previously purchased app discovery company Chomp, along with their patent-pending algorithm for making it easier to find apps and discover apps.
Long. Over. Due.
