Apple To Patch Security Flaw

If you were concerned about the security flaw discovered by researchers that could infect iPhones worldwide, it appears that Apple shares your concern. A report today from BBC News sources an O2 spokesperson who says a patch would be available on Saturday via iTunes.

Apple has not commented on the issue, but they were contacted by the researchers weeks ago, who alerted them of the security flaw. The two presented at the Black Hat cybersecurity conference, explaining how the hack works. The hack modifies the data sent by the network which the user does not see, but arrives in the form of a text message. If the iPhone is not turned off, the hackers can make calls, access the web and send text messages which could lead to the viral spread of the hack.

Again, no word from Apple, but don’t be surprised if we see an incremental upgrade that patches the flaw. There haven’t been any reports of this hack being put into action, outside of the demonstration. More than likely, a patch will arrive before this infects any iPhones outside of those being demoed at the Black Hat conference.
