AppleInsider have found evidence of Apple testing three new pieces of hardware under iOS 4.1. According to their sources, the next beta for iOS 4.1 will include hardware references within the USB configuration files to three new devices: iPod4,1; iProd2,1; and “unknownHardware.” The iPod designation is used for the iPod Touch, the current version is iPod3,2, and this would indicate a new generation of hardware. iProd is the code for iPad, which would be a sequel to the megapopular tablet.
What about “unknownHardware?” That’s a good questions. Currently, the most heavily rumored device to be bearing the iOS brand is a revision to AppleTV, the iTV. Otherwise, if Apple were to split the iPad into a mini and normal size line, we might see a new hardware code, or maybe there will be a new iPod, different from the iPod Touch. We’ll just have to wait and see.
