Apple Sued Over Apps Sharing User Details To Advertisers

In the wake of allegations that apps are improperly sharing user data with advertisers, Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is being sued for allowing apps to share the users information to advertisers without explicit permission. The suit has been filed in federal court in San Jose, California, and notes that Apple devices have a UDID, and these transmit to developers which apps are downloaded and how long they’re used for, which is valuable information to sell to advertisers. “Some apps are also selling additional information to ad networks, including users’ location, age, gender, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation and political views,” alleges the suit.

The suit claims this transmission of data is a “violation of federal computer fraud and privacy laws.”
