Apple has a new series of print advertisements running on the back pages of magazines — and it’s a frankly fantastic way of showing off the size and shape of the new iPad mini.

As you can see above, it’s a remarkably simple idea: it just takes the cover of the that magazine, and shrinks it down to iPad mini size.

As spotted by 9to5Mac, the newest issue of the New Yorker has the same ad — but naturally, with the cover of that magazine instead. What makes this advertisement so brilliant is not just that it shows you how small the iPad mini is, but it immediately ties it to magazine reading in your mind — you can instantly picture the magazine you just read, but on a new platform.

Now, if only Newsstand wasn’t so mediocre…
