Apple gadgets aren’t exactly known for being cheap — and while they do tend to last, and have a good resale value, the initial outlay can be daunting. To help the people of China deal with the rather prohibitively high cost of Apple goods, the company has started offering two-year payment plans via its website.
Even with an exploding middle class, the average wage in China is substantially below that in the USA, putting Apple gear further out of reach. Now, people who purchase anything from 300 yuan ($48) to 30,000 yuan ($4800) can spread the payments out over a period of up to two years. And, if you pay it off in the first year, there’s no fees or interest.
In the USA, Apple’s been offering financing for years with the folks at Barclays. However, this new move really underscores Apple’s attempts to make inroads into China, and tap the massive market there.
