Apple Pulls Death Grip Videos

Apple’s antenna page was filled with videos of other company’s handest, beset with similar problems as those that hit the iPhoe 4 — a loss of reception when held wrong. That is, until today. Apple has now scrubbed the page, completely removing these videos, and it now shows just information about their incredible testing lab. Gone are the examples of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the HTC Droid Eris, the Motorola Droid X, the Nokia N97 Mini, and the Samsung Omnia II.

You can still see the videos on Apple’s YouTube page.

We’re assuming they pulled the videos due to most of the other companies being extremely unhappy about being dragged into the whole mess, with rumors that some were even contemplating legal action.

Steve must be done with his hissy fit.

I think that the phones being up there was justified. To many quick to jump on the iPhone errors when most phones have similar issues.

      Jonathan,
What other phones have a similar signal drop when touched in one spot.
      No death grip one finger.

        Sean,

But those video weren’t wrong or misleading. While other companies still continue to gawk at Apple in their ads talking about “which way you hold your phone,” Apple has a right to fire back on its own site.

Let other people make a one finger death grip commercial. They’re ALL true.

No, they were misleading. I can’t make my Droid X do that… ever. I can’t make my friend’s blackberry bold do it… ever. I couldn’t make my droid eris or my motorola droid do it…. ever..

“Legal Action” for what, the truth?? Didn’t AT&T try to sue Verizon over the map commercials and that lawsuit slowly went away. Why, because you can’t sue someone for telling the truth!

Steve is off his period. Yay = )

Based on reports, the candian site for apple still has these videos up.

Guys – I can’t believe you all fell for the explanation of this picture. Clearly it’s a leaked shot of the terrifying Apple Bad Employee Courtroom and Death Chamber. Once the offending employee has been deemed guilty, he/she is thrown from the podium onto the death spikes. The sound absorbing panels on the walls and ceiling prevent other employees from hearing the trial in progress – they only broadcast the blood curdling screams AFTER the sentence is passed…

I was playing around with my friend’s Verizon Blackberry Storm the other day when I noticed if I palmed the phone in that “death grip” way her signal bars dropped out immediately. As soon as I switched to holding it by my fingers the bars popped right back up, just as it does on iphone 4. I showed it to her and wondered why there’s no media frenzy over Blackberry’s “terrible reception issue”. I think the videos on Apple’s site have achieved their purpose and aren’t needed anymore, any smart phone will have diminished reception if you cover the antenna. I believe Nokia’s own user manual tells you not to hold the phone that way.

My iphone 4 is a let down. I get dropped calls at least 2-3 times a day. I live in urban Portland with towers every where so I just don’t get it. Why isn’t there a recall? Ya, the screen and other nifty stuff is cool but I basically don’t look at my phone with confidence that I can complete a phone call. And it sucks because I waited in line for 9 hours and missed a day of work for it. I’m so frustrated because every computer we own is an Apple and I brag so much about the quality of the computers. I just want it fixed. That’s not asking a lot. It’s stupid that I have to hold my phone a certain way just to get “3″ bars. Please fix it!
