Digitimes has released a report estimating smartphone sales for 2011 in which they claim Apple will not only ship massive numbers, but significantly overtake Nokia on the global market. Their industry sources say that Apple will ship 86.4 million iPhones in 2011, up 82% from 47.5 million units in 2010. Nokia, on the other hand, will decline from 100 million in 2010 to 74.4 million in 2011.
They’re also pegging Samsung, HTC and LGE to achieve significant growth, and even Blackberry to be in the positive, despite losing marketshare.
While Apple’s 82% growth may seem impressive, keep in mind that the smartphone marketplace is growing explosively, and Samsung, HTC, LGE, Huawei and ZTE all had more growth, if not quite as large final numbers,
