The ever diligent folks at Patently Apple have found a very cool Apple patent — one for a cloud based storage box, which appears to be remarkably secure. Here’s how they’re describing it:

Apple’s patent is about a safe deposit box for securing important user files. In one aspect, when a user drags-and-drops a file representation onto a safe deposit box icon, the file is secured. In another aspect, when a user selects the safe deposit box icon and verifies his or her identity, the user could access secured files through a safe deposit box window.

While this does sound plenty interesting, it strikes me as incredibly similar to the service offered by DropBox — who will give you 2GB of cloud based secure storage for free. It’s not enough to upload your entire music collection, but it ain’t chickenfeed.
