According to Forbes, Motorola posted an unexpected profit this quarter, but still managed to lose pole position as the largest US phone manufacturer. That’s right, Apple is now the biggest phone manufacturer in the country, as Apple sold 8.8 million phones in Q1, just beating out Motorola’s 8.5 million sales. When the Razr was at its hottest, Motorola sold 46.1 million phones in the first quarter.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Apparently Motorola is now shifting its focus from plentiful, low cost dumbphones to expensive smart-phones, like the Droid.
As John Gruber points out, Motorola currently sells 117 different phone models. Apple sells 2.
