A report this afternoon from Reuters cites two sources who claim Apple is in negotiations with EPIX regarding licensing to stream content to devices including a TV product that would come either later this year or in early 2013. EPIX is currently available on major cable providers with a large assortment of movies. It has the backing of several movie studios including MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp and Viacom’s Paramount Pictures.
EPIX currently has an exclusive agreement with Netflix that lasts through September of this year. Netflix pays $200 million per year for the rights.
According to one of the sources, discussions with EPIX would apply to it’s current Apple TV 2 and “upcoming devices that stream content“.
Maybe it’s me, but outside of the salacious title (Apple courts Hollywood for upcoming TV: sources), I missed the part where the sources actually confirmed the Apple Television exists.
