Reuters reports that Apple’s gross margins on U.S. iPhone sales roughly double that of iPad sales. These numbers are coming out in court thanks to the continuing patent battle with Samsung. Sales between April 201o and March, 2012 showed iPhone sales generated revenues of greater than $33 billion, with iPad sales accounting for $13 billion. Margins on the iPhone were 49 to 58 percent of sale, while conversely, the iPad margins were 23 to 32 percent of sales.
Apple and Samsung continue to wage war in the courts over various patent claims. This latest trial is set to begin in federal court on Monday, with Apple seeking $2.53 billion in damages.
Apple has had a fair amount of success in the courts. Most recently, a court awarded Apple a victory with the ban of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales and were granted a preliminary injunction on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Samsung has since resumed sales of the Galaxy Nexus.
