Yesterday’s release of iOS 5.0.1 was largely a bug-fix update, addressing the battery-use concerns of a number of iOS 5 users. Some users are still struggling, though, as documented in the Apple Support forums. Complaints range from small drops in battery on standby to noticeable plunges in just a few minutes.
AllThingsD has been keeping an eye on the problem, and has just heard back from Apple:
“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” the company said in a statement given to AllThingsD. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”
Our batteries seem to be doing well post 5.0.1, but for the users who are still experiencing significant battery drain, this should come as a relief.

i was having a complete battery melt-down/phone running hot issue. i decided to look through a bunch of old threads and ran across an obscure solution where people who were having the same issue going from the 3G and 3GS to the 4 tried removing all of their email accounts off their phone, then turning off the phone, turn it back on and re-add all of their email accounts. While this sounds strange, it worked.. suddenly my phone is back to acting like normal. Don’t ask me why, but it worked.. suddenly the battery performance is back to norm, and my phone is no longer hot to the touch.. try it..
