Back in March, we found out that Apple was using OpenStreetMap for location information in the new version of iPhoto — but was doing so without license-required attribution. Thankfully, in a recent update, that’s been fixed, and now OSM is properly accounted for in the iPhoto aknowledgements.
OSM announced the attribution over Twitter, and it’s good to see Apple giving credit where it’s due — even if a few months late. The big question now is if iOS 6 will see Apple shift away from Google Maps even more — the relationship between the two companies has been rocky for some time, and a split has been rumored forever. Maybe the next version of Maps will run of OSM, too.
