Apple has released its annual Supplier Responsibility Report, and appears to be taking improving conditions for workers very seriously. So seriously in fact, that when it came to light that one was using underage workers, Apple severed the business connection.
Apple undertook 393 audits of its suppliers this year, covering 1.5 million workers. The company also brought a large amount of pressure to bear on improving the number of hours worked by employees, and has hit a 92% compliance rate on a maximum 60 hour work week.
But by far the most interesting tidbit of the report is that it came to light that Guangdong Real Faith Pingzhou Electronics (PZ) had employed 74 people under the age of 16, faking papers to make it seem legal. Apple then ended the relationship between the two companies, and is no longer using PZ as a circuit board component manufacturer.
