If you have an iPhone 3G, and you installed iOS 4 on it, there’s a pretty good chance that its been rendered almost unusable. Some people haven’t had any problems, but others have been hit by horrific delays in typing text messages, basic apps crashing, and everything running at approximately the same speed as a snail on ketamine.
It looks like Apple has finally looking into the issue. A spokeswoman told the WSJ that they are aware of the issue, and are looking into it.
Until we learn more, there are a couple of tricks that seem to help. Turn off spotlight, hard reboot twice, make sure to close all Safari tabs, reset the phone to factory settings, or do a complete wipe and re-install. Your mileage may vary.

About time!
I have an ipod touch 2g 8gb….same as the iphone 3g and it sucks cauz i have bought a couple of apps which crash unknowingly and that sucks…..my ipod stucks like hell n sometimes even the pages wont slide…..even rebooting doesnt help. I seriously hope that apple releases a new update to solve all our problems..!
I was relying on an update too, but why would Apple try to keep an outdated phone (only 2 years old) in the loop while promoting the 4. I have a 3G and was getting horrific speed and response from my phone. I tried all the tips listed above and nothing worked. I was preparing to downgrade until I decided to try removing all my apps from folders (about 17-18) the pages on my homescreen jumped up. But I noticed a huge difference in performance, I guess the folders is like a file managing system (similar to multitasking) and was taking memory. If your still having issues w/your 3G try this. If you have any apps in folders take them ALL out. It worked for me, my phone is performing up to par finally.
Slight pick, but at least show the right picture of a 3G, not a a 2G!!!
Sorry about that, fixed!
Ah, thanks for that, I can now rest easy. Fabulous site BTW.
Apple’s standard response to customer complaints is, “We are aware of the issue, and are looking into it.”
