A struggling Taiwanese manufacturer that previously produced a tablet called I-Pad have threatened to sue Apple over the name of their tablet. The company plans to sue for damages in China and the USA, and holds registered trademarks for the name IPAD in the EU, China, Mexico, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to the company’s chairman, the global IPAD trademarks were sold in 2006 to a US-registered company called IP Application Development (IPAD) for around $55,000, a company that was secretly linked with Apple. However, the Chinese rights to the name were not included in the bundle.
