The iPhone 4′s proximity sensor is nothing but trouble. You told us, we listened, and Apple has promised that a software fix is in the works. Unfortunately, it’s not ready yet. The Sydney Morning Herald contacted an Apple spokesperson about the issue, who “acknowledged the company had yet to fix the problem.”
The proximity sensor problems are a major issue, and one that we’ve heard a huge amount about from our readers (that, and bluetooth fuzziness). With Apple’s big event just a couple of days away, it would be a perfect opportunity for Steve Jobs to announce iOS 4.1, fix the proximity bug, fix the Bluetooth bug, and make it so iOS 4 is usable on the iPhone 3G.

Dammit!
Terrible. This should have been a priority.
I totally agree. Instead they chose breaking the jailbreak was a priority.
I have been having the proximity sensor problem. I did notice “fuzziness” on my bluetooth, but didn’t realize it was a known issue. I just thought my BT headset was not working properly. I too hope Apple can make an announcement soon.
Weak…
I agree Jim. They sure did fix that little exploit fast. Got to put there pocket books first.
This really is my only v4 complaint, but it’s a big one! I’m personally not going to be convinced this is fixable via software until I see it…
Yeah this is a huge problem for me. I have three kids and constantly need to put my phone on my shoulder to free up my hands and 9 out of 10 times it hangs up on the other person. I never had this problem with my 2G or 3G or any other phone for that matter. Also, when I first got my Iphone 4 I thought reception seemed much better on my ride to work, now I drop calls constantly
Are these issues sporadic or are they with every unit that’s out there? The reason I ask is that I don’t have any BT issues at all. I don’t have an ear piece BT but one that is built into my car. I can hear callers (and they me) very clearly. Actually, I’ve noticed that it is clearer than my 3G. As to the proximity sensor, I haven’t had any issues either but it is highly sensitive (if that’s what you’d call it). If I slightly pull my ear away for a sec I’ll see the display light up. I don’t know if this is what people are referring to. When I’m on a lengthy call I’ll use my moshimoshi so that solves any issues with the sensor (if indeed there are).
Why don’t you use your headphones? Then hit the lock button? That’s what I do and it works great. I only use the one ear piece with the mic and put my phone in my pocket. Note: without the headphones plugged in the lock button ends the call in IOS4. Apple should fix this also since the old phones always locked, the new phones hang up.
A bumper cured my dropped calls. I see random strange glitches all through the operating system with my iPhone 4. Things like receiving email, but you can’t see it until you turn the phone off and back on. Another one is that sometimes the keyboard opens with the space bar missing. These are just two examples, but I notice small glitches like these all the time. My biggest gripe is that my wifi works terrible compared to my 3G. The router is in the next room, but I get one bar and poor performance.
This really is my only v4 complaint, but it’s a big one! I’m personally not going to be convinced this is fixable via software until I see it
