Starting yesterday, AT&T was meant to unlock out-of-contract iPhones, so have any of our readers tried it? Did you manage to convince Ma Bell to unlock your phone? TNW has a rundown of how the process works, and it can be done in-store, through online chat, or over the telephone. AT&T only needs the device’s International Mobile Equipment Identity number. Once confirmed, you’ll be emailed a code, and then will need to restore and tether the device to take advantage of the unlock. At least, that’s how it’s meant to work.
Discussions on other websites have shown mixed results. Some are getting the code sent through right away, some are being told 72 hours, and some 5-7 days. Especially as of yesterday, a number of support staff appear to have been either unaware of, or unable to complete, the unlocking procedure — but I hope that’s just due to it being a Sunday, and hopefully things should happen a bit better now.
We want to know which of our readers attempted this, and who has succeeded! Let us know in the comments thread, or over in our iPhone forum!
