When it comes to tablets, there is the iPad and then you have the rest of the pack. Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and the like have all seen what could be termed as minimal sales when compared to the iPad. When Apple releases the iPad 3 later this year, the bar will be raised yet again and analysts are weighing in on what that might mean for sales in 2012.
The market for the iPad does not appear to be slowing down and a new model with features like 4G LTE along with a high definition display should certainly boost demand from those looking to upgrade and those who were on the fence. Analyst Shaw Wu from Sterne Agee sees big sales for Apple’s iPad in 2012.
“We believe this significant refresh will likely help drive higher iPad sales and help further differentiate from arguably the only real competitor in the market, Amazon’s Kindle Fire, and not to mention the myriad of Android offerings out there. We are currently modeling 48 million iPad shipments for calendar 2012. That’s an awfully big number, but it could prove too small before the year is out.”
Those are big numbers indeed. Steve Jobs said that 2011 was going to be the year of the iPad. What’s that make 2012 if Apple hits these sales estimates?
