According to a report this evening from DigiTimes, they expect volumes to reach four million units per month starting in September. The ramp up would pave the way for a busy holiday season and possible October launch. The source claims that production of the device started as early as June, with volumes in the several hundred thousand range.
Apple is expected to host an event on September 12th, which its widely expected that we’ll see the introduction of a new iPhone and the new smaller iPad.
If Apple announces and ships a $199 iPad product, they’ll need each and every one of those 4 million units per month. If they announce in September for an October launch, it’ll be interesting to see if they accept pre-orders. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a limited pre-order, followed by in store availability when it launches.
