63% of Verizon Smartphones in Q4 Were iPhone

Apple isn’t making its earnings call until tomorrow, but we are hearing from a few other major companies, and Verizon’s numbers are remarkably iPhone heavy. While quarterly revenue was up overall, the company posted a loss due to pensions and Hurricane Sandy. But on a far more interesting note, the iPhone was by far the most popular smartphone in their entire stable.

Verizon saw 9.8 million smartphones activated on their service last quarter, of which 6.2 million were the iPhone. That’s 63% of their smartphone business on Apple devices, with the rest being Android. Tablet sales doubled from last year. Apparently 50% of those iPhone activations were LTE devices, which means 3.1 million of the iPhone 5 alone. That means that the iPhone 5 is almost equal in sales to all the Android phones in their lineup.

A year ago, the iPhone was 4.2 million of the company’s activations.
