1 Million Verizon iPhone 4s Sold In First Weekend?

While there weren’t lines out the door like with the launch of the first iteration of the iPhone 4, the sales of Verizon’s take on the phone may not have been all doom and gloom. According to The Street, Verizon sold 1 million units in the first weekend, an impressive number by any standards — a mere 700,000 fewer than AT&T did in their launch weekend.

With such big numbers, why weren’t the lines super-long? Dan Mead, Verizon’s Wireless chief says that 60% of sales were from pre-orders, so only 400k were in brick and mortar stores. Combine that with the VeriPhone being sold in a bunch more locations than the AT&T launch, and there really was no need for long lines.

These numbers are still estimates, and I kind of have a feeling that if they actually did pass the 1 million mark, a press release would have been sent out. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was approaching that number, though.
